Bayram Holiday in Fethiye, Turkey

Fall break came earlier for me than it usually does. Back stateside I have fall break during the week of Thanksgiving, but here in Turkey it lined up with Kurban Bayram. A friend and I took a leap of faith and got on board a bus with a group of about 30 other people from Turkey to make the 14 hour bus ride down to Southern Turkey where we were gonna hang out on the Mediterranean for the week.

This trip was proof that a leap of faith can be extremely rewarding. The holiday was a memorable one. There were a few glitches along the way – flat tire on the way down  and bus completely breaking down on the way back, but I still came back feeling rested and ready to tackle the rest of my semester here.

Top memories from the trip:

Kayaking in the Blue Lagoon – the water was calm, the mountains surrounding us were breathtaking and the company was perfect.

Sunsets and Moonrises

Jumping off our tour boat into the Mediterranean – quite the rush that takes you back to you days of being a kid

Climbing a waterfall in Butterfly Valley

Walking through freezing cold water and mud in Saklıkent Gorge (finally remembering my water camera – forgot it every other day)

A Safari Jeep Excursion

Exploring the Ghost Town of Kayaköy

Miscellaneous Animal Spottings

Food Boats – that serve something similar to chocolate crepes – nuffsaid

Buying fresh spices

Paragliding = Unbelievable Experience

And most importantly – an awesome travel buddy who was up for anything and everything, including quiet nights in (:

Us on St. Nikolaus Island (Origins of Santa Claus)

Cheers and Love from Turkey

  1. Loved this post! It made me want to drop everything I’m doing, fly to Colorado, and go hiking 🙂 Also, if you would have told me the guy in the middle of the Jeep picture was Jake, I would believe you….
